The body stores and uses energy continuously. Body fat is one energy store, but short-term changes in fuel use do not automatically translate into a lasting change in body weight.
Avoid one-step explanations
Metabolism includes many processes that keep the body functioning. The amount of energy used varies with body size, activity and other circumstances. A claim that a single food, supplement or treatment “boosts metabolism” needs to be examined carefully rather than taken as a promise of fat loss.
Several influences matter
Food and drink, movement, sleep, medicines and health conditions can affect weight. Changes on a scale can also reflect factors other than body fat. Increasing blood oxygen is not presented here as a method for weight loss.
Plan around your health
If you want support with weight, discuss realistic goals and suitable options with a GP or dietitian. Ask what a proposed programme measures and whether it promises results it cannot reliably predict. Seek assessment for unexplained weight changes, and do not alter prescribed medicines or start extreme diets on the basis of a metabolism claim.
